International access to Peru is through Jorge Chávez International Airport, located in the Constitutional Province of Callao, 15 minutes from the city of Lima. There are flights every day to and from the world’s most important cities.
Locally, there are also flights between many of the country’s main cities.

By road |

The use of taxi companies (requested by telephone) or of taxis authorized by the municipalities (in Lima, they are yellow and some have a lighted taxi sign on their roofs) is recommended.
Urban buses (the cheapest means of transportation) are painted and numbered according to their routes. Most have long routes and can be uncomfortable. Find out about them before getting on and never take a bus late at night.
The Pan American Highway, which is in very good shape, runs along the entire Peruvian coast. Visitors are recommended before starting on a trip in the country’s interior in their own or rented cars, to check on the state of the roads linking up the various provinces. There are some very good inter-provincial bus services that are well acquainted with the routes.

By train |
|
|
There are trains in southern Peru that run between the cities of Arequipa, Puno and Cusco. There are also daily trains running from the city of Cuzco to Machu Picchu, among them the Servicio Inka, Turismo, Autovagón and Ferrostal. These vary in price according to the schedule and quality of the cars. See www.perurail.com for further information.
In central Peru, trains run daily along the single railroad segment for passenger transport, between Huancayo and Huancavelica.
