| > |
El
Angel Ecological Reserve |
|
From
Quito, the North Pan American Highway is the
main access route. Take the turn-off onto the
Ibarra-El Angel road.
From the town of El Angel continue along
the old road toward the city of Tulcán,
leading to the tourist site of El Voladero,
which is part of the reserve.
Another possibility is to take the road to
the village of Jesús del Gran Poder, on the
western boundary of the area. Access is also
possible from Tulcán by driving along the
gravel surfaced road to Maldonada that passes
through the foothills of the Chiles volcano
and reaches the Aguas Hediondas and Lagunas
Verdes tourist sector and Potrerillos.

There
are several access routes to the border and
interior of the Reserve. The entry to the
Quilotoa is along the Pujilí road (12 km.
from Latacunga).
To reach the mountaintops, take the South
Pan American Highway from Quito, passing
through the town of Machachi to the turn-off
for Chaupi. On reaching that town, the road to
the Ilinizas is paved in rough stones and
reaches the plain known as the Virgin’s
