Andean journalists to make tour of tourist sites in the CAN countries

Lima, May 3, 2002. Specialized journalists from Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela tomorrow, May 4th, start a 19-day tour through the capitals and major tourist sites of the Andean Community countries.
The purpose of their tour is to personally visit the major tourist attractions in the countries of the subregion so that they can subsequently publicize and promote them, helping in this way to create an awareness of the wealth and importance of this sector.
This tour by the journalists, entitled Travel, life and nature, is part of the celebration of Andean Tourism Day (May 24th) and of a broad promotional program designed by the Andean Committee of Tourist Authorities and the CAN General Secretariat.
The tour will start on May 4th with the journalists arrival in Caracas. From there, they will travel to Carúpano in Sucre State and on to the Vuelta Larga Camp, known for its efforts to investigate and develop tourism and ecology according to the living school of tourism, and Medina Beach.
On May 8th, the journalists will proceed to Colombia to visit Santafé de Bogotá, its capital city, and several ecotourism sites in the department of Boyacá. From there, they will proceed to Ecuador on May 12th. There will be a guided tour of Quito, an overland trip to Imbabura province and a visit to Cotacachi and the Indigenous Community Tourism and Ecotourism Project.
On May 16th, the journalists will travel to Bolivia to visit the Eduardo Avaroa National Reserve, the department of Potosí, and the Uyuni salt flats and colored lagoons, among other sites. Their last visit will be to Peru, where they will travel to Cusco, the Manu National Park and Lima.
The tour program will conclude with a Seminar on Tourist Policy and Ecotourism in the Andean Community, which will be held in Lima on May 24th. At that time, the journalists will have an opportunity to exchange impressions about the tour and discuss important issues associated with tourism and ecotourism with tourist agents in general and tourist authorities from the five countries, who will also be participating in the meeting.
