 Santiago Island
This island is the possessor of impressive volcanic landscapes and is inhabited by a kind of seal known as lobo de dos pelos, flamingos and sparrow hawks. Sullivan Bay, Buccaneers’ Cove, Espumilla Beach and Egas Port are all sites to be visited on the island.

For some time now, Ecuadorian and foreign scientists have been engaging in environmental conservation research and projects in the Archipelago. The Charles Darwin Scientific Station, one of the ecological organizations involved, has been carrying out programs since 1959 to safeguard the way of life of this group of islands that constitute a unique habitat. The Station and the Interpretation Center that offers illustrative explanations of the islands’ evolution and their legends can be visited on Santa Cruz and San Cristóbal Islands. During the eighteenth century, this outstanding reserve offered shelter to pirates and buccaneers seeking food, water and protection. It was also the refuge of a European Baroness, whose life has been the subject of fascinating publications.

The only access to the Galapagos Islands is by air from Quito or Guayaquil. TAME flies to Santa Cruz twice a day, Monday to Friday, and to San Cristóbal once a day, only on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.
AEROGAL has a daily flight from Guayaquil and covers the San Cristóbal-Baltra and San Cristóbal-Isabela internal routes, as well.
Every 11 days, Ecuador’s Navy offers a 4-day cruise to the Islands from Guayaquil.

 San Cristóbal Island
Capital of the Province of Galapagos, this island has a freshwater lake, El Junco, and small rivers, a handsome rocky formation known as the Sleeping Lion, and a well-equipped interpretation center. It is inhabited by two species of frigate birds, one of endemic cucube and three of boobies (Pitt Point).

 Floreana Island
The island has a half-submerged volcano called the Devil’s Crown, which is ideal for diving to observe the sea fauna in the coral banks. There are flamingos, seals and blue-footed boobies at Cormorant Point. Don’t forget to send a postcard from the island, depositing it in a barrel used by navigators centuries ago.

 Santa Cruz Island
The Van Straelen interpretation center is located here. Puerto Ayora is the home of the famous giant Galapagos tortoises that can be admired and photographed. After visiting the installations of the Galapagos National Park and the Charles Darwin Station, you can explore the tunel de los Gemelos (Twins’ tunnel), take a dip at las Grietas, visit the Playa de los Alemanes (the Germans’ Beach) or just enjoy the wonderful white sand at Tortuga (Tortoise) Bay.

 Isabela Island
Possessing an active volcano, the island boasts a tortoise-breeding center in Puerto Villamil, where you can watch adults, young specimens and newly born tortoises. A visit to flamingos’ lagoon, a climb up Cerro Negro (Black Hill) or Sierra Azúl (Blue Mountain), a trip to the muro de los lamentos (wailing wall) or a horseback ride along the beach are all recommended activities on this island.

 Isla Española, or Spanish Island
The island is home to several fascinating endemic species, like the albatross, the cucube and marine lizards and iguanas. At Plaza Sur, in the eastern part of the island, there is a large colony of seals and land iguanas sheltered by a handsome cactus forest. On one side of the island, the sea breeze makes itself felt through the “hueco soplador,” or blowing hole.
