The
island was inhabited in the sixteenth century
by pearl fishermen. Today, this piece of Nueva
Esparta is an oasis of peace and harmony with
nature. Over the entire area of 11 km by 5 km
(6.82 miles by 3.1 miles), silence and peace
reign in the presence of the Caribbean Sea as
today’s island dwellers pursue their
habitual fishing and tourist activities.
