Yuri Falls
The Yuri rapids, where a pronounced unevenness in the riverbed in two different sectors forms the falls, can be reached in an excursion that includes a drive in a rugged vehicle, a trip by curiara, and a short walk through the forest bordering the Carrao River. During the dry season, travelers can visit the Yuri beach located on one side of the Carrao.

Salto El Sapito, or Little Toad Falls
A small waterfall next to Salto El Sapo.

The highest waterfall in the world, its waters originating in the Carrao River plunge almost 980 meters (3,234 feet) from the summit of the tepuy to the jungle --800 meters (2,640 feet) of that in a free fall. Together with those of the Hacha, or Ax Falls, its waters feed into Lake Canaima. The Angel Falls were discovered in 1937 by United States pilot, Jimmy Angel, a gold prospector who landed his plane on the summit of Auyantepuy. Light planes taking off from Canaima and from Kavak overfly the falls several times a day.

How to get there
The western sector of the Canaima National Park is accessible only by air. There are commercial flights to the site every day from the Simón Bolívar Airport in Maiquetía and General Santiago Mariño Airport on Margarita Island.

Points on the Route
Auyantepuy
Its name means Devil’s Mountain in the Pemon language and from its summit the Angel Falls descend. Covering an area 25 km in length by 35 in width, it soars 2,450 meters (8,085 feet). This mountain is considered to be one of Venezuela’s most important biological riches, with over 800 plant species, of which 77% are endemic.

Cañón del Diablo, or Devil’s Canyon
More than a natural formation, it is like a huge throat that almost divides the Auyantepuy Plateau into two parts. Numerous strangely shaped crags and waterfalls can be spied from its summit. The Cortina, or Curtail Falls plunge 300 meters (990 feet) from its upper western branch.

La Orquídea, or Orchid Island
Located in the Carrao River, this island was for many years the favored habitat of the exquisite flower that gave it its name. A project is currently being executed jointly by the Orchid Society of Miranda State, INPARQUES, the La Salle Foundation and the Canaima Foundation to repopulate the island with the region’s most representative species.

Canaima Lake
The turbulent waters of the Carrao River at the foot of the falls form this lake, which is like a huge pool. Its waters are a unique hue, black in the deepest parts and a reddish-yellow along the edges. Visitors can board curiaras on the beach to explore the lake.

Salto El Sapo, or Toad Falls
This impressive waterfall inserted in an area of dense vegetation is just a short walk from Anatoly Island, through a long, narrow forest. The special feature of these falls is that they offer the possibility of treading behind the dense curtain of water along an irregular narrow path formed by the rocky wall.
