Passports
and Visas |

When
reviewing passport information, visitors
should consider the length of time they
plan to stay in the country. Passports
must be valid for the entire period.
All immigrant and non-immigrant
visitors must register with the Ministry
of Foreign Affairs and the General
Immigration Bureau within 30 days after
arrival.
|
|
All
visitors must carry passports, except for:
1. Tourists with Colombian
identification cards, providing they hold
international embarkation and
disembarkation cards and that they are
travelling between Ecuador and Colombia
only.
2. Tourists holding United Nations or
Organization of American States
laissez-passers.
3. Tourists on active service with the
Merchant Marine Corps.

All
visitors must have visas, except for:
1. Visitors from the United Kingdom who
plan to stay no more than 90 days.
2. Tourists making visits of up to 90
days, except for citizens of Afghanistan,
Algeria, Bangladesh, Costa Rica, Cuba,
Guatemala, Honduras, India, Iran, Iraq,
Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Nicaragua,
Nigeria, North Korea, Pakistan,
Palestinian Authority, People’s Republic
of China, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Sudan,
Syria, Tunisia, Vietnam, Yemen and Sikhs.
3. Starting on September 11, all
citizens of Arab countries will be
required to hold a visa.
4. Visa requirements were removed for
citizens of Venezuela and Panama.

In-transit
passengers:
1. Persons flying 12 hours in the same
aircraft or making flight connections,
provided they have previously confirmed
reservations and carry other documents to
continue their trip.
2. Members of the Merchant Marine Corps
(except for citizens of North Korea) who
hold passports or documents issued by the
shipping company stating the name of the
vessel on which they are due to sail
within 36 hours.

Customs
The following items may be brought into
the country:
-300
cigarettes or 50 cigars and 1 bottle of
liquor duty-free. A reasonable quantity of
perfumes, gifts and personal effects are
also permitted.
-The bearing of firearms, ammunition and
drugs is prohibited.
-Fresh or dried meat, plants and wild
animals cannot be brought into the country
without prior authorization from the
Ministry of Agriculture.

Taxes
-No taxes are charged on domestic
flights.
-An international airport departure tax of
US$ 25.00 is charged in the capital city.
-A fee is charged for entry into
prohibited areas.

Health Measures |

|
Visitors do not require any vaccinations to enter the country. However, those with high blood pressure or heart problems should check with a doctor before travelling to high altitudes.
Malaria has not yet been eradicated and there are cases in the Amazon and coastal areas during the rainy season.
