Casa de la Moneda (Mint) Museum
Located in the city of Potosí, this building is considered the Escorial of America. It is made of stone, tile and cedar wood, and comprises an area of 7,570 m2. The access to this museum is through a beautiful Mannerist portal. The visitor’s attention is first drawn to the “Mascarón”, of 1865, work of the French Eugenio Martín Moulon, according to a version existing on its origin. Nowadays, the Mascarón identifies both the Mint and the city of Potosí itself.

Gold Museum

Since 1939, after four hundred years of stories about sacking, conquests and findings which sometimes were by chance, the official collection of the Gold Museum was started with the sponsorship of Banco de la República de Colombia. It opened in 1944 to special visitors of the Bank, and now it has a modern building downtown Bogotá, very close to its first location.

“Amantes de Sumpa” Archaeological Museum
This place is located southeast of the city of Santa Elena, in the peninsula of the same name, and it is accessed from the city of Guayaquil. Sumpa is the native name of the Peninsula of Santa Elena, and the archaeological site is known as Las Vegas. The archaeological zone corresponds to a pre-ceramic settlement where traces of housing, garbage dump and a cemetery are found.

The Lord of Sipan Museum
Before the discovery of the Lord of Sipán’s tomb, the experts thought that the images or representations of the Mochica art were part of mythological scenes that existed only in their creators’ imagination. This is why it was a surprise to confirm that many of the emblems, ornaments and garments found in this magnificent burial, which were used by the owner when he was alive, were similar to those appearing at the classical themes of the Mochica art, mainly “The presentation” or “Sacrifice of prisoners”.
