Challenge to Some, Privilege of Few
Mountain climbers can choose the Parque Nacional de los Nevados (National Park of the Snow-capped Mountains), covering territory in the Departments of Tolima, Risaralda, Quindio and Caldas, from among the Andean heights in Colombia on which to enjoy their favored sport. From the city of Manizales, they can climb to the refuge in the Nevado del Ruiz, which has tourist facilities to help them in their ascent.


Ecuador's Andes II
Many protected natural areas are to be found in Ecuador’s Andes, which contain volcanoes and mountains, lakes, valleys, rain forests and tropical forests, together with an endless variety of plants and animals.



Colca Valley
The basin of the Colca River lies at the northeastern end of the Arequipa region, with Mt. Ampato as its highest point (6,300 m or 20,790 ft.a.s.l.). The almost 100 km (62 mile)-long Colca Valley occupies only a part of the Colca River Basin, that located between the Districts of Callalli y Huambo. There are 16 villages in the area inhabited by descendents of the Collahua and Cabana ethnic groups, from whom they inherited a rich cultural tradition.



San Pedro del Río, Táchira State
The purest expression of Andean tradition, colonial jewel of Táchira State and the pride of Venezuela’s tourism, San Pedro del Río, located in Ayacucho Municipality, is a very special town showcasing an architecture that is typical of the region.
