How to get to the Route: Large and burgeoning Antioquia - Colombia

Antioquia department is interconnected by land with the rest of the country: the departments of Córdoba, Choco, Risaralda, Caldas, Cundinamarca, Boyacá, Santander and Bolívar. Tourists are able to move easily through the department, thanks to its excellent paved roads.

By air

Small planes fly into Medellín’s Olaya Herrera aerodrome.

The José María Córdoba international airport, a short 45-minute drive from Medellín in nearby Rionegro, operates day and night.

National connections are available with the cities of Bogotá, Manizales, Montería, Neiva, Pereira, Puerto Berrío, Quibdo, San Andrés, Cali, Florencia and Ibague. The flight from Bogotá to Medellín, by any of the country’s commercial airlines, takes about an hour and a half.

There are also international flights from Miami, Panama, New York and San José.

Overland

The roads in Antioquia department are generally paved highways that link up the country. The main highway from Bogotá reaches Medellín in a journey of approximately 399 kilometers, passing through the municipalities of Honda, La Dorada, Carmen de Viboral and Rionegro.

The distance from Cartagena to Medellín is about 650 kilometers and from the city of Pasto in southern Colombia it is approximately 920 kilometers by paved highway.
