Antioquia department is interconnected by land
with the rest of the country: the departments
of Córdoba, Choco, Risaralda, Caldas,
Cundinamarca, Boyacá, Santander and Bolívar.
Tourists are able to move easily through the
department, thanks to its excellent paved
roads.
By air
Small planes fly into Medellín’s Olaya
Herrera aerodrome.
The José María Córdoba international
airport, a short 45-minute drive from
Medellín in nearby Rionegro, operates day and
night.
National connections are available with the
cities of Bogotá, Manizales, Montería,
Neiva, Pereira, Puerto Berrío, Quibdo, San
Andrés, Cali, Florencia and Ibague. The
flight from Bogotá to Medellín, by any of
the country’s commercial airlines, takes
about an hour and a half.
There are also international flights from
Miami, Panama, New York and San José.
Overland
The roads in Antioquia department are
generally paved highways that link up the
country. The main highway from Bogotá reaches
Medellín in a journey of approximately 399
kilometers, passing through the municipalities
of Honda, La Dorada, Carmen de Viboral and
Rionegro.
The distance from Cartagena to Medellín is
about 650 kilometers and from the city of
Pasto in southern Colombia it is approximately
920 kilometers by paved highway.
