Medellín, with its population in the
neighborhood of 2,026,789 inhabitants, is
located at an altitude of 1,538 masl and

capital city of Antioquia department.

pastries known as “empanadas”; “buñuelos,”
or fritters, and a custard called “natillas,”
together with the delicious typical Paisa meal
consisting of white rice, red beans, ground
beef, pork cracklings, fried egg, fried
plantain and “chorizo,” a highly-seasoned
pork sausage, accompanied by an avocado slice,
and whose presentation and taste are evocative
of Antioquian hospitality and bounty.
