Press Release about the Andean Community’s Negotiations with Mercosur

Lima, September 25, 1998. Upon the conclusion today of the 4th Round of Negotiations of the Preferential Tariff Agreement with Mercosur, the Andean Vice Ministers of Trade highlighted the progress made in approximating positions with respect to the products of interest to their countries, with the aim of increasing trade.

Furthermore, they announced that the negotiations would continue between October 21 and 23rd of the current year in Montevideo.

The Andean representatives also ratified their willingness to conclude the negotiations within the shortest time frame possible.

Moreover, they stated that in order to avoid the inconveniences that would be caused by an interruption in the trade flows between the two blocks, there is a willingness to extend the Bilateral Agreements existing under the framework of ALADI, for which consultations would be held at the appropriate levels on Monday, September 28, 1998.
