In the face of events that are taking place in Ecuador, which seriously threaten the legally established constitutional order in that Member Country of the Andean Community, the Presidents of Bolivia, Colombia, Peru and Venezuela wish to express their most determined and resolute support for the democratic system and rule of law in Ecuador under the Presidency of Jamil Mahuad.

The Andean Presidential Council reiterates that it is only through respect for the existing legally constituted system that the social and political rights of the citizens are guaranteed and the development of our societies is promoted.

With this conviction, they encourage the people of Ecuador and the political and social actors of their sister nation to pursue stability and progress through understanding and dialogue.
