Designation of The Hipólito Unanue Convention on Cooperation on Health in the Andean Area Countries as “Andean Health Body - Hipólito Unanue Convention”

THE ANDEAN COUNCIL OF FOREIGN MINISTERS

HAVING SEEN: Decisions 445 and 449 of the Andean Council of Foreign Ministers and General Secretariat Proposal 73;

WHEREAS: Decision 445 of the Council of Foreign Ministers approved the incorporation of the Hipólito Unanue Convention into the Andean Integration System;

Through Decision 449, the Council of Foreign Ministers approved the terms of the Hipólito Unanue’s incorporation into the Andean Integration System and also approved new Organizational and Operational Regulations for the Hipólito Unanue Convention;

In Resolution REMSAA XXIII/372 of December 10, 2001, the Ministers of Health of the Member Countries of the Treaty Creating the Hipólito Unanue Convention on Cooperation on Health in the Andean Area Countries agreed to name that Treaty “Andean Health Body - Hipólito Unanue Convention.”

The Health Ministers of the Member Countries of the Hipólito Unanue Convention requested the Andean Council of Foreign Ministers to amend Community provisions to reflect the new name of the Hipólito Unanue Convention;

The new name facilitates the Convention’s identification in its new role and position within the Andean Integration System;

DECIDES:

First Article. - To amend the wording of Article 1 of the Annex to Decision 449 containing the Terms of Incorporation of the Hipólito Unanue Convention into the Andean Integration System to read as follows:

The Hipólito Unanue Convention, through the Declaration of August 8, 1998 and Special REMSAA XIV/1 Resolution, accepted by the Andean Council of Foreign Ministers on that same date, expressed its desire to become a part of the Andean Integration System.

As a result, that Institution acquires the status of Social Convention of the Andean Integration System and shall be known as “Andean Health Body - Hipólito Unanue Convention.”

Second Article.- To empower the General Secretariat, based on the stipulations of this Decision, to draw up a unified text of the Terms of Incorporation of the Andean Health Body - Hipólito Unanue Convention into the Andean Integration System.
