Declaration of the Andean Council of
Presidents on the Political Situation in
Nicaragua
1. Reaffirming
the Joint Communiqué of the Andean Council
of Foreign Affairs Ministers of October 25,
2004, on the situation of Nicaragua, and
having taken notice of the meeting of the
Presidents of the member countries of the
Central American Integration System (SICA)
on last June 30th, the Chiefs of State of
the Member Countries of the Andean Community
express their concern for the political
situation that is putting in danger the
stability, democratic institutionality and
the balance and independence of the state
powers in such country.
2. The Chiefs
of State expressed their firm determination
for their full support to the preservation
of the democratic institutionality of the
government of Nicaragua, its political
stability and the national dialog being
promoted by the Organization of American
States, in answer to the request made by the
Nicaraguan authorities.
3. Express
their confidence that the application of the
Inter-American Democratic Charter, the OAS
mission in course, and the responsible and
democratic action of the internal forces
involved will allow a solution for
safeguarding the democratic institutionality
and stability so that the Nicaraguan people
may decide in the elections to be held in
November 2006 the constitutional succession
of the present legitimately elected
government.
