Declaration on the Convergence of
Integration Processes in South America

American Community of Nations
Brasilia, September 30
In accordance
with the Cuzco Presidential Declaration of 8
December 2004, and considering that South
American integration is and must be
integration of the peoples for the
establishment of an integrated South
American space, the Presidents of the South
American Community of Nations hereby decide:
1. To promote convergence of the Economic
Complementation Agreements among the
countries of South America.
2. To request the ALADI, MERCOSUR, CAN and
CARICOM Secretariats to prepare, in
cooperation with Chile, Guyana, and Suriname,
no later than the first semester of 2006,
studies on the convergence of economic
complementation agreements among the
countries of South America. These studies
should contemplate the objective of the
gradual establishment of a South American
free trade zone as well as the
complementation of the economies of the
South American countries and the promotion
of their growth and development, taking into
consideration the reduction of existing
asymmetries and in the case of member states
of ALADI preserving the advances achieved in
Resolution 59 of ALADI’s Council of
Ministers.
