Official text of the Andean Community’s letter of invitation to Chile

Mrs. Michelle Bachelet
President of the Republic of Chile

Your Excellency,

We have the great honor of addressing Your Excellency to express the strong interest of the Member Countries of the Andean Community in having the fraternal Republic of Chile bring to fruition its stated aspiration of deepening its relations with the subregional integration organization through its incorporation as an Associate Member.

The Member Countries of the Andean Community are convinced that Chile’s participation as an Associate Member of the CAN will significantly reinforce the efforts to which we are committed to deepen integration in the subregion and to achieve the CAN’s effective convergence with MERCOSUR, with a view toward consolidating the South American Community of Nations.

Confident that this invitation will be accepted, we should like to take this opportunity to renew to Your Excellency the assurances of our highest and most distinguished consideration.
