The Andean Development Corporation (CAF) is a multilateral financial institution that supports the sustainable development of its shareholder countries and regional integration.   It serves the public and private sectors by supplying numerous financial products and services to a large portfolio of clients consisting of the governments of the shareholder states, financial institutions and public and private enterprises.  Social and environmental variables are a part of its management policies and it includes criteria of coefficiency and sustainability in its operations.

While its main shareholders are Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Spain, Trinidad & Tobago, and Uruguay, as well as 15 private banks in the region, are also shareholders.

The CAF has maintained an uninterrupted presence in its shareholder countries, which has enabled it to consolidate its regional leadership in effective resource mobilization. Today it is the main source of multilateral financing for the Andean Community countries.  In point of fact, of a total of US$ 28,764 million approved by all multilateral financing organizations for the Andean countries between 2001 and 2005, the CAF alone contributed US$ 15,592, or 54% of that sum.
