Declaration on the Follow-Up to The South America – Arab Countries Summit
First Meeting of Heads of State of the South American Community of Nations
Brasilia, September 30

The Heads of State of the South American Countries, having gathered in Brasilia, 29 and 30 September 2005, reiterate the importance of the South America – Arab Countries Summit held in this same city, on May 10 and 11, and stress the need to build on the favorable political moment and dynamic generated by the summit to strengthen and diversify relations between these two regions of the developing world.

They reaffirm their commitment to implementing the decisions and recommendations arising from the Summit.

To this end, they reaffirm their readiness to take active part in the follow-up activities set forth in the Brasilia Declaration, particularly the Algiers (10-20 November 2005) and Aleppo (14-15 December 2005) meetings on the Arab-South America Library, the Cairo Meeting of High Representatives (29-30 November 2005) and the ministerial meetings on culture and economic issues to be held in Algiers and Quito, respectively, in the first half of 2006.
